Sixteen students living together in one community with intentional discipleship at the heart of it. The vision and aim of this ministry is to establish a culture in Cambodia that represents Jesus. The primary focus of our "Jesus community" is to live with the students and show them, by example and teaching, how to love God with all your heart, soul and mind.
Intentional discipleship is less about teaching and more about leading by example. We live by the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:1 "Imitate me, as I imitate Christ." We live as a family; eating together, studying together, playing together, worshiping together, serving together, and growing together. As a family help each other pursue Christ in a culture that denies Him at every turn. We invest in the students, showing them what it looks like to follow Christ. Then we release them to invest in others and encourage them to show others how to follow Christ.
Each night after supper, the students gather for a time to study the Bible and worship as a family. To be a disciple of Christ means you must know what He says and what He wants (Matthew 28:20).
We are called not to simply learn about Jesus but to live as He lived. (1 John 2:6) "Whoever says He abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He lived." Disciples of Christ - reach out as His hands and feet into the community. The students are trained how to reach out to their own people in a variety of ways
Community Children's Outreach
The students pick up children from the community, bring them to the center, help to disciple them, and lead them in the study of God's word and worship of our King. The students are training the next generation of worshipers.
The students also participate in rural outreach to children in the provinces by caring for their spiritual needs through worship, songs, games, and Bible stories. They care for their physical needs by teaching basic hygiene techniques such as: how to brush and take care of their teeth, clipping fingernails and toenails, washing hands and feet, and helping them get rid of lice.
Medical Missions Outreach
The students with medical training also provide physical and spiritual support for the adults and children through medical missions. These students are attending or have completed their training as nurses aids, nurses, dentists, pharmacists or doctors. As the students provide medical assistance to the people, they also pray and share the gospel - the real hope for this world.
Phnom Penh Thmey Community Church
"You are the light of the world. A town build on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16
Phnom Penh Thmey Community Church started in 2012 with a very small group of local Khmer university students who had the desire to see a church established in their community. Since 2012 the fellowship has grown to a around 40 adults/university students and 60 kids who come each week to hear about Jesus.
As the church, we are salt and light to a community in darkness. We are the place the world looks to see what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. It is the aim of this church to be the hands and feet of Christ in this community. Through the church, God using His people, to bring hope and life to those who need to know hope can be found.
Children's worship - 8:00 am
Adult worship - 5:30 pm
Church Planting/Pastors Training Ministry
Our desire is to raise up and train the Khmer people to be a self-replicating church. We have been blessed to help with church planting movements in Kamgong Charm, Kampot and Takeo provinces. At the same time we aim to equip church leaders so they are able to better disciple their community.
Cambodia is filled with people who are hungry to hear truth. To see that there is hope beyond this life. To know that God truly cares and has moved heaven and earth so that their relationship with Him can be restored. The gospel is being preached and in many places accepted. Which means that the body of Christ is expanding in Cambodia.
While this is true - there is a great need that is arising in the Cambodian church. There is a serious lack of biblical understanding, knowledge, and tools needed to lead the church well.
We aim to raise up men and women who are passionate and knowledge in their pursuit of Christ. Equipped to do the work that is necessary to lead the church and raise up men and woman who follow Christ. Then teach their people to "go" and complete the great commission by going and making disciples themselves.
